– Born on January 17, 1706, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Josiah Franklin and Abiah Folger.
– 15th of 17 children.
– Apprentice to older brother James, a printer and publisher (1718-1723).
– Ran away to Philadelphia at 17 and started working as a printer.

Career (1728-1776)

– Founded the Pennsylvania Gazette (1729), which became a successful newspaper.

– Invented bifocal glasses, the lightning rod, and other innovative devices.
